Renee' and I were pleased to have Sue and Steve come out to visit us a couple of years back. Though Sue was quite weak, we dragged her all over, including Crater Lake park, and she took it all in without complaint.

We all had a great time, and I am now looking for a few photos to post here. My sister Sandy and I visited Sue twice in my visits to Chicago, and did all we could to encourage her.

When Steve called to give me the news today, I recalled with Steve her tremendous strength to endure her illness for so long, a true example of a ferocious Lithuanian. We will miss her.

As young kids, we lived in the apartment below Susie. Together, we would walk to McClellan Elementary School, with Nancy (I thought she was Ann Margaret's twin) supervising. After school, we'd hang out together singing, "I love the flowers, and the daffodils..." eating Baltic Bakery Lithuanian rye bread and butter. On Saturday nights, my dad would conduct science experiments and then we would all dance together to the Lawrence Welk Show. One Christmas, my mom sewed us all ballerina outfits so that we could twirl the nights away, my brother wearing a white shirt, tails hanging out the back of his pants and his tie dangling off to the side of his neck. How much fun was it Trick or Treating Mayor Richard J Daley, house across the street? My best memory of Susie? Her funny, funny deep throated laugh.

When I worked at NLU, I got to know Sue and we became friends. I lost track of Sue when I changed jobs and ultimately moved away from Chicago. For whatever reason, she was on my mind much of the day yesterday. When I tried to search for a means to contact her, I found her obituary. Sue was a real bright spot in my life for a few years, and I had more fun chatting with her than should have been allowed. She was a real gem, and will be missed.
