Ellen Noble was born in Wilkerson County, MS, on May 4th 1929.  She is the daughter of the late Richard Noble Sr. and Bertha Webb Noble.  She attended Brumfield High School in Natchez, MS.  After high school, she moved to Chicago, Illinois and worked as a Registered Nurse for Children's Memorial Hospital.  She obtained a Bachelor degree from Roosevelt University.

Ellen was a world traveler prior to illness.  She loved her family, her Church, the arts, theater, opera, poetry and photography.  In addition, she loved broad discussion in the area of poetry, philosophy, religion, politics and current events. There was always much discussion and debate around the family dinner table during the holidays.  Ellen also loved to cook and enjoyed gourmet dishes.  A family fond memory is the fudge and peanut brittle she made and shared with the family during holidays.

While Ellen had many interests, in the latter years she had three groups that seem to resonate with her more than others.  That was the infamous poetry group, the Red Hatters and her Church family.

Ellen is survived by her sister Joan Noble and brothers Richard Noble Jr. and Ed Noble.  Brother Isaac Noble preceded Ellen.  In addition, she has a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Message from Ellen

This is my statement to my loving church, family and friends. It is my family nature to keep serious matters close to the heart.  You see I knew for a long time that the "Old Grey Dame" would take my soul out of me.For a long time it was in final stage, but I was not ready yet, for everything wasincomplete.  52 years in this small space, treasures and thrash I have saved.Holding on to it is like holding on to my life. When I am gone, have a brief church service with bible verses, psalms, poems and fellowship, thinking tenderly of me……..

I was honored to know Ellen. She was the first person I met when I joined the Brown Bag Poets, three years ago. She was so welcoming and kind. After that I was able to enjoy her wonderful and insightful poetry. I will never forget her amazing spirit and style. With deepest sympathy. We will all miss her.
Wishing you love and peace,
Jocelyn Ajami
