Celeste Gabinski

Celeste Gabinski (nee Kropidlowski) born December 9th, 1955, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 69 on May 20th, 2025 after bravely battling pancreatic cancer for nearly three years.

Celeste was known to all who loved her for her kindness, generosity, sharp wit, and infectious sense of humor. She was a radiant light in the lives of those around her, and above all, she was known for her incredibly big heart. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support; she will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Celeste studied history at Loyola University Chicago, including a memorable semester abroad in Rome, Italy. She dedicated herself to public service, first as a legislative aide to Congressman Rostenkowski and later as the office manager to Senator Durbin. Her intelligence, dedication, and compassion touched the lives of many in her professional and personal communities. 

Celeste was first and foremost a loving mother and wife. She nurtured her son’s love of music and history with boundless encouragement, and she encouraged her daughter’s love of painting, photography, and culinary arts by acting as her go-to recipe tester and most proud art collector. A fiercely loyal friend, Celeste loved with her whole heart. She was her husband’s confidant — his source of perspective, strength, and unconditional love throughout their 38 years of marriage. 

Celeste was the heart of her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Alderman Terry Gabinski; her son Cpl. Matthew Gabinski (USMC); and her daughter Molly Priorello (Gabinski).

Her warmth, humor, and love will live in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to have known and loved her.

Family and friends will gather in her old Bridgeport neighborhood Friday, June 6, 2025 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm to remember Celeste at Walter Pomierski &  Son Funeral Home, 1059 West 32nd Street, Chicago. Interment will be private. (773)927-6424.
