Columba Duran

With great sorrow, the Durán family shares the passing of Columba Durán, age 76.  She was a loving mother of four, and adoring wife of Elpidio Durán. Her passing on July 3rd 2023 leaves the family with a heavy heart but with immense gratitude for having had her in their lives. Columba was born on August 7th, 1946 in Zacatecas México. In her mid twenties, she moved to Chicago with her husband and three children (Yolanda, Jaime and Leticia). Her son, Cesar, was born in Chicago two years later.

Columba had an immensely generous heart, which welcomed all into her home. She spoiled her children and never tired of being their most fervent advocate. She was her husband’s right hand and together they built a wonderful life in Chicago.

Besides her enormous heart, Columba had an amazing sense of humor, which she often used in her observations of human nature. Her husband, children and grandchildren as well as all of her extended family and friends will miss her dearly.

A wake in celebration of Columba’s life will be held at Pomierski Funeral Home, 1059 W. 32nd St., on July 10th from 4pm-9pm. On Tuesday, July 11th a Funeral Mass in her honor will be given at St. Joseph Parish, 4821 S. Hermitage at 10am. After Mass, the Funeral will be held at St. Casimir Cemetery, 4401 W. 111 Street.
