John Vincent Kelly, age 77, passed away in hospice care on June 21, 2026. He was first diagnosed with colon cancer in May, 2025.

John is survived by his loving sister, Mary Kelly Dowd and brother-in-law, Richard Dowd; sister-in-law, Sr. Dorothy Dowd S.B.S.; and several cousins and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (nee McNamara) and John Thomas Kelly, and younger brother, Bernard Nicholas Kelly.

John was born at Michael Reese Hospital and live in Chicago's South Shore community. He attended St. Phillip Neri Elementary School, Quigley Preparatory  Seminary South, and graduated from Loyola University Chicago. He started his career working for the City of Chicago for the Office of Professional Standards and for the Recorder o Deeds. He then worked at Chicago Title and Trust as a Title Examiner. In 1997 he moved to the South Loop. He enjoyed walking to work and being an active member of Old St. Mary's parish choir. He was a true "City Person".

John was an enthusiastic Chicago White Sox fan. He enjoyed living in Chicago and knew all the CTA routes. As a dedicated runner, he completed many 10k races His proudest accomplishment was completing the Chicago Marathon in the 90's. He enjoyed taking classes at The Old Town School of Folk Music where he learned to play the guitar, banjo, and bodham (traditional Irish frame drum). His musical interests ranged from Folk Music to Opera. For the past 30 years our summer family trip was to  Milwaukee's Irish Fest in August. Our last Irish Fest trip together was in August 2024. Our last visit together to The Old Town School of Folk Music was in September 2025.
