Lydia McMurtry

Lydia McMurtry (nee Mungia), 74,  of Chicago, IL passed away August 5th, 2025 in Chicago. She was born on September 3, 1950.

 Lydia had unconditional love for her two daughters, Lisa (Brian) Bruen and Lynda McMurtry. She was a cherished grandmother "Gam" to her three grandsons, Michael, William, and Kenneth (KJ). Lydia was preceded in death by her mother, Felicitas, and father, Salvatore Mungia; sisters, Bertha and  Martha; brothers, Salvatore, Jr. (Dorthy) and Raymond; her great niece, Tori Rhein. Lydia was a loving aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt to Lupe Williams (Ray and family), Valerie Rhein (Tony and family), Victoria Viramantes (Eddie and fur baby), Vanessa Kopterski (Paul and family), Sal Mungia (Shelly and family), and to many other nieces and nephews.

She was a devoted Catholic to St. Gabriel Parish, and an active member of bible study and the rosary group with her friend, Shirlene Mendoza. Lydia was a medical assistant for 35 years for Dr. Brian Chiaramonte, DPM. She enjoyed family parties and the company of her bird, "Peety". 

She will forever be in our hearts.

Family and friends will gather for visitation Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 3 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday, August 13th from 8:30 to 9:30 am at Walter Pomierski & Son Funeral Home, 1059 W. 32nd Street, Chicago. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 13 at St. Gabriel Church, 600 W. 45th St, Chicago. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip (773) 927-6424
