Mary Jane Oleszkiewicz

Mary Jane Oleszkiewicz 88 years old, of Chicago, IL Born and raised on Lyman Street passed away on March 14, 2024.

Mary Jane was a lifetime resident of Bridgeport, Chicago.  She attended grade school at St. Bridget and St. Mary of Perpetual Help High School.  She earned an Associates Degree from Loyola University of Chicago.  After college, she served as a third grade teacher at St. Anthony’s Parish in Bridgeport.
She then became a full time mom to her four children who were always her most precious gifts.

She treasured her grandchildren, always taking them to see the Chicago museums, the Shedd Aquarium, the zoo, and Grant Park. She loved to be outdoors, and gardening was her passion. 
 
She was a trusted secretary for her husband Stephen at his law practice for over 15 years. 
 
Mary Jane enjoyed attending the symphony and theater with her husband.. She had a wonderful voice and appreciated good music.

She took pride in keeping in contact with her friends and family. She wrote beautiful, heartfelt letters in elegant handwriting, each one a work of art. She would go out of her way to help strangers in need, and always thanked those that helped her.  
 
Her mother instilled a strong faith in God and a sense of family importance.
 
She was a member of the Sodality in High School and participated in the May crowning. Later,  she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Choir member at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church and she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Copernicus Circle.
 
She was married to her husband Stephen for 68 years. Their strong bond of love was an inspiration to all who knew them. 
 
Mary Jane is preceded in death by her parents, John and Victoria Stolarski of Lyman Street in Bridgeport, her husband Stephen Oleszkiewicz, and siblings Edward (Rose), Adeline, (Ted) Chester (Sally) and Leonard (Anabelle). 
 
She is survived by her children Vincent (Sandra) Oleszkiewicz, Diane Gallagher, Robert Oleszkiewicz (Hon. Geraldine D’Souza), and Victoria (Robert) Carlo.
 
Grandmother to Lauren (Salen) Churi, Dr. Stephen (Kelly) Oleszkiewicz, Michael (Casey) Oleszkiewicz, Madeline (Ryan) Callen, Timothy Gallagher, Victoria Gallagher, Monica Gallagher, Michael Carlo, and Mary Carlo.
 
Great Grandmother to Grace, Charles, Claire, Rami, Charlotte, and Chloe.
 
She was loved by many nieces and nephews.
She was cared for by her longtime caregiver, Lito Procianos. 
Friend to many. 
 
Visitation for Mary will be Sunday, March 17, from 3 to 8 pm and Monday, March 18, from 9 - 9:30 am at Pomierski & Son F.H., 1059 W. 32nd St.  Mass of Christian burial  is 10:00 am at St. Mary of Perpetual Help Church, 1039 West 32nd Street. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery 7201 Archer Avenue, Justice
