Marie T. Jeka

Marie Jeka, also known as Rie-Rie, age 72, of Chicago, passed away on November 7, 2023, after an intense hospitalization at Loyola Hospital during a 15 year battle with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Marie gave hearts and kisses to her
immediate family by her side and to all her family and friends.  She was the beloved wife of Joseph, loving mother to Kari (Chad Kinnard); cherished grandmother of Elle, Keith, and Brenna, who were the light of her life. She leaves behind her mother-in-law, Eleanor Jeka, and is preceded in death by her parents: Caroline and John Fisset; and Thomas J. Jeka. She was a fond sister of Jon Fisset, Michelle Fisset, Marcia (Michael) Ali, Gina Fisset-Murphy, Joseph Fisset (Joy), Pam (Tom) Zegar, Renee (Rich) Miller, Charlene (Mike) Guokas, Gerald Jeka (Elizabeth), Ronald Jeka, and Thomas Jeka. She had great love for being an aunt to many nieces and nephews, was a fond cousin, niece, and family and friend to many.

Marie was a great baker, organizer, hardworking as a paralegal for the Illinois Student Assistance Commission until her retirement in 2017. She loved to travel, especially on “sister” trips. She loved baking and enjoyed collecting cookie jars for the love of the history. She made the best chocolate chip cookies, carrot cake, pies, family birthday cakes as well as perfecting recipes. As a mother, she told the best fairy tales and had you following cool fashion trends. Marie enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, planning fun activities with them, shopping, and living life under her own terms. In all her years of living, Marie was the epitome of a strong woman, knowing when to pick up and move on, handling the darkest moments with grace, and making the most of them. She never once gave up in all these years of treatment. She was a highly intelligent woman whom made efforts the best way she could to love and do good for others with everything she had. When Marie let loose, it was truly the most beautiful thing as you would always see her creativity as well as happiness shine to others.
