Matilde Garcia passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022. She was born on March 14, 1926, in San Pedro, San Luis Potosi, Mexico and was married to Esteban who proceeded her in death in 2020. They had 13 children, Juan (deceased), Maria ( Francisco), Eustaquio (Petra), Gaudencio (Ofelia),Tomasa (Anwar), Maria de Jesus ( Enrique), Juan (deceased), Cleo, Isabel(Mario), Fidel(Julia), Lupe (Patrick), Esteban (Juanita), and Esther (Daniel). She was a grandmother to 36 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Emeterio and her sister Prisca as well as many nephews and nieces.
Matilde was very religious and prayed daily. She had immense love for all of her family, especially the young - many of which she helped raise. Her fabulous legendary flour tortillas provided warmth, enjoyment and love every Saturday morning for many years. She fed anyone that entered her home and no one left hungry or unsatisfied. When she wasn’t praying or feeding her loved ones, you could find her on her chair in the living room crocheting wonderful clothing for the newest baby in the family or beautifully intricate lace runners, tablecloths, and doilies. We’ll cherish them for many years. Her chair near the window also provided the perfect perch from which she served as our own personal “neighborhood watch” and it was her favorite seat to watch the evening novellas. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a smile to match. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation for Matilde will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 9:30 to 10:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2751 West 38th Place, Chicago, IL, followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 am. A graveside service will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. (773)927-6424.
